The West Side Mosquito and Vector Control District has just received confirmation of positive mosquito samples from the City of Taft, Ford City, and the Maricopa flats area.

The samples were collected through the District’s surveillance program and have tested positive for West Nile Virus.

Positive samples from the City of Taft were collected from Garratt Street.

Ford City samples were collected from Fillmore Street.

Samples from the Maricopa flats area were collected from orchards near Copus Road, the California Aqueduct, and Highway 166.

The incidence of West Nile virus remains high.

With the day and evening temperatures remaining high, the District expects this to continue and urges residents to keep using repellents when outdoors, dump any standing water sources, and to call if they need help.

Call us or use the Service Request (click button above) if you are being bitten (especially if you think you're being bitten during the day, as this can indicate the presence of Aedes mosquitoes) or if you have areas of stagnant water that cannot easily be removed (swimming pools, blocked gutters, etc.).

The District can provide mosquito inspections, sampling and pesticide application when needed.
