With COVID-19 guidelines still in place, the Kern County Fair has been canceled but fear not. While we may not have the rides or exhibits the fair is still finding a way to still give us our treats - county fair food treats! 23ABC's Bayne Froney has the details on the fair food drive-thru.

Corn dogs, funnel cakes, kettle corn are all going to be available starting next week.

"The fair has been a Kern County tradition for over 100 years and it is super hard to think about what a year is without a fair," said Chelsey Roberts, facility marketing representative for the Kern County Fair. "And although we can't have our traditional fair, we still wanted to bring something fun and interactive that people can still do that brings them one of their favorite things about the fair, which is the food."

A now-empty parking lot will be filled with food stands come next week, when the Kern County Fair will be hosting their fair food drive from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on September 25th through the 27th and October 2nd through October 4th bringing the community the fair festivities in a safe way.

"Of course, you are going to have to have your corn dogs and funnel cakes and in kern county one of the favorites is cinnamon rolls," said Roberts.

That's just the beginning there's a long list of treats all at different price ranges. The different food stands will be set up all throughout the South P Street parking lot, allowing residents to drive through enjoying the fair food and decorations all from their car.

"So basically when you come in, you will drive in, and the first stand is a corn dog stand and then you will see your typical barbecue stand, our local Noels Mexican food stand will have churros and corn, and funnel cakes," continued Roberts.

So how will your order be taken if you can't leave your car?

"Someone is going to come up to your window and take your order off of an iPad and then you will drive through and see all of your favorite huge pretty concession stands with all of the pretty lights and someone will grab your order and bring it right out to your car for you," explained Roberts.

Safety is our number one priority. They will be following all the required guidelines and best practices for operating:

  • Please stay in your car, no walk up ordering will be allowed
  • There will be no restrooms or tables available, all food is to-go only
  • All staff will be required to wear face masks at all times
  • Please wear a mask when ordering and accepting your food.
