Here's a look at some of the events happening this weekend around Kern County.
Saturday, June 11:
-"Just One Day" event at Kern County Animal Services at 3951 Fruitvale Ave. Part of a nationwide movement where animal shelters pledge to not euthanize any savable animals for one whole day. All cat and dog adoptions will be reduced to $11 between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
-Marley's Mutts Mobile Spay and Neuter Clinic: $30 spay or neuter surgery that includes a microchip, pain meds and rabies vaccine. Taking place at New Life Church of God, 8510 Weedpatch Hwy. Apply here.
-4th Annual Kickin' Cancer in the Butt Run: 5K or 1 mile run or walk that benefits The American Cancer Society Tehachapi Relay for Life. Registration begins at 6 a.m. and the race begins at 7. 21750 Westwood Blvd, Tehachapi.
-Wind Wolves Preserve 10K/10 Mile Trail Run: Begins at 7:30 a.m., registration is $50-$55 and ends on Friday at 11:59 p.m.
-Better Bakersfield Car Show and Giveaway, Saturday and Sunday: East Hills mall parking lot, 3000 Mall View Road. Begins at 10 a.m. Two cars will be donated to a family in need. If you'd like to show off your car or participate as a vendor, call 661-373-1722.
-Springtime Faire, Saturday and Sunday: Fine arts and crafts fair at Railroad Park, 105 Tehachapi Blvd. Event begins at 10 a.m.
-NOR Operation Just Keep Swimming: Free community swimming event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the NOR pool on 401 Galaxy Ave.
Sunday, June 12:
-Cafe Med 25th Anniversary Celebration: Food and music at 4809 Stockdale Hwy in celebration of Cafe Med turning 25. $35 for adults, $10 for children.
-Backcountry Adventures: Backcountry tour that allows access to "authorized access only" areas. 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Reservations required, contact 661-858-1115.
