KERN COUNTY, Calif. — The National Weather Service in Hanford has announced a winter storm warning for portions of the Southern Sierra and Kern County mountains that are at elevations above 5,000 feet.

The warning will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday and last until 11 p.m. Wednesday

Officials expect anywhere from 6 to 12 inches of snow at elevations above 5,000 feet, with accumulations of up to 18 inches possible.

If you plan to travel, consider alternate strategies. Roads are expected to close due to snow cover, and travel is expected to be difficult.

The National Weather Service recommends that everyone delay travel plans.
