With increasing travel, downtown Bakersfield gears up for Labor Day weekend

Posted

Labor Day weekend is here and local restaurants and bars are ready for the large crowds.

Popular spots all around town, like The Padre, want to make sure that safety comes first. During long weekends and holidays, The Padre partners with the Bakersfield Police Department and Uber to ensure the safety of their customers.

Padre bartender Karyn Patterson shared it's for the greater good for the community.

"(It's) just to make sure that society is safe and we're not a part of any drunk driving or under the influence problems for our community," Patterson said.

A spokesperson for Uber told 23ABC that requests build up during holiday weekends and they typically see a rise in rides after bar close.
