Woman in critical condition after being accidentally shot by a 2-year-old in Northwest Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A woman is in critical condition after a 2-year-old shot her with a handgun in Northwest Bakersfield Sunday morning.

According to the Kern County Sheriff's Office, the child located the gun inside an apartment near the 5500 block of Norris Road and accidentally fired the weapon, which struck the female relative.

Deputies responded to the scene at about 8:30 a.m. and located the injured woman, who was rushed to the hospital.

At last report, the woman is in critical condition.

KCSO has not confirmed whether the child's parents or if anyone else was inside the apartment, during the incident.
