BAKERSFIELD, CA. — The Wonderful Company awarded $1 Million in grants to local nonprofits and schools for it’s Covid-19 relief fund.

California State University Bakersfield has had to close much of its campus due to Covid-19, taking away on-campus jobs from students.

Now, the local college has partnered with the Wonderful Company to find a solution.

“We’ve been doing a fund like this for many years now but whats different about this year is that we’ve upped the amount to $1 million and it's going directly to schools and nonprofits who have been affected by Covid-19," said Kaitlyn Yates, Wonderful Company.

“Employment opportunities that are being provided right now are good for the students and economy in the long run," said Nyakundi M. Michieka, Professor of Economics at CSUB.

The Wonderful Company has chosen 15 Central Valley nonprofits and schools, including its two largest recipients CSUB and the California Farmworker Foundation.

“We're getting to partner with elementary schools all the way to colleges, including employment opportunities virtually, and even rental assistance, a lot of organizations have stepped up to the plate so partnered on that," said Yates.
