More than 25 community leaders are hosting over 100 landlords and property owners to address homelessness during the California Landlord's Summit on Homelessness.
During the summit speakers will discuss ways to decrease Kern County's homeless population, methods other cities and states have successfully used to help their homeless population and how to get local landlords and property owners involved with housing the county's homeless population.
Ian Sharples, from the Income Property Association of Kern County, said, there are vouchers available to pay for rent for chronic homeless people, or someone who's lived on the streets for over a year. He said once a person has a stable living situation they can then focus on other necessities like doctor's appointments or find a job.
