3 dead after train strikes truck on the tracks in Long Island

WESTBURY, Long Island (WABC) -- — Police say three people were killed when a Long Island Rail Road train struck a truck that was on the tracks in Westbury Tuesday night.

Authorities say the 6:36 p.m. train from Ronkonkoma headed for Penn Station became disabled after hitting the truck at about 7:30 p.m. at the School Street crossing.

Service is suspended in both directions on the Ronkonkoma and Huntington/Port Jefferson branches.

There is no word yet on any injuries or on how many passengers were on the train.
