At least three people were shot late Thursday night in Baton Rouge, La. just blocks from the location where Alton Sterling was shot and killed by law enforcement earlier this week, the Advocate in Baton Rouge is reporting. 

Reporters for The Advocate said that the victims were transported by ambulances to area hospitals. 

Earlier in the evening, members of the community protested the shooting death of Sterling. 

Sterling's death, along with the shooting death of Philando Castile, have prompted nationwide protests. One such protest turned deadly in Dallas Thursday evening, as four police officers were killed in the line of duty, and eight others were wounded. 

Baton Rouge was among the cities that had large protests Thursday evening.
