Adele says she turned down the NFL's offer to play the Super Bowl

Pop singer Adele says she’s turned down the NFL’s offer to perform at Super Bowl LI in Houston.

During a concert at Los Angeles’ Staples Center on Saturday, the British superstar said the league was “very kind” to offer, but she passed at the chance to headline the show.

“First of all, I’m not doing the Super Bowl,” Adele said. “I mean, come on, that show is not about music. And I don’t really — I can’t dance or anything like that. They were very kind, they did ask me, but I said no.”

According to a report by The Sun last month, NFL officials were “desperate” to have Adele headline the Halftime show in February. The outlet also reported that the league was having a difficult time convincing the singer to participate.

While having the chance to perform in front of the largest American TV audience is seen by many as the ultimate gig, some performers have criticized the league rules that forces musicians to mostly mime their performances.

Coldplay, Katy Perry and Bruno Mars have headlined the last three Super Bowl Halftime shows, which also included appearances from the likes of Beyonce, Missy Elliot and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
