Las Vegas Metropolitan Police spokesperson Todd Fasulo said that authorities recovered 42 firearms belonging to Stephen Paddock, the alleged gunman who killed 59 and injured more than 500 at a country music festival.

Fasulo said 23 of the weapons were recovered from the hotel room in Las Vegas that Paddock allegedly used to fire on the crowd below. An additional 19 guns were found in Paddock's home in Mesquite, Nevada.

Authorities confirmed that some of the weapons found in the Las Vegas hotel room contained scopes. Las Vegas police's Joe Lombardo also said that police uncovered explosives and 1,000s of rounds of ammunition at Paddock's home.

It is unknown where Paddock obtained the majority of his weapons. One gun shop owner in Utah stepped forward to say he sold Paddock a rifle earlier this year.

"He talked about how he just moved closer to where we are," Chris Michel, owner of Dixie GunWorx, in St. George, Utah said of Paddock. Michel talked to KTVX-TV. "He said he was visiting local firearms shops."

Law enforcement officials said that Paddock did not have a criminal record, and would not have had any issue passing any background check.
