WILTON, Conn. -- Blue Buffalo has voluntarily recalled some of its wet dog food due to a potential health risk.
The company says one lot of its BLUE Wilderness Rocky Mountain Recipe Red Meat Dinner Wet Food for Adult Dogs may contain elevated levels of naturally-occurring beef thyroid hormones.
The recalled food comes in 12.5-ounce cans with the UPC code 840243101153. The best buy date of June 7, 2019, can be found on the bottom of the can.
If you purchased the recalled product, throw it away, or you can return the dog food to where you bought it for a full refund.
No other Blue Buffalo products are being recalled.
Dogs who ingest high levels of beef thyroid hormones may exhibit symptoms of increased thirst and urination, weight loss, increased heart rate and restlessness. Symptoms may increase in severity with prolonged consumption and may include vomiting, diarrhea, and rapid or difficulty breathing.
If your dog has eaten the recalled dog food and exhibited any symptoms, stop feeding it to them and contact your vet.
Blue Buffalo says it has not received any reports of dogs with these symptoms after consuming the recalled product, but the FDA says one person reported symptoms in their dog who is now fully recovered.
