CASTILE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities have recovered the body of one of two children missing since they were swept over a waterfall in upstate New York.

State police say the children were part of an extended family that was playing in the Genesee (JEN'-uh-see) River in Letchworth State Park Saturday evening when someone slipped, causing the whole group to be carried over the Lower Falls waterfall.

Authorities say five people were rescued Saturday night. They were hospitalized with various injuries from minor to serious. The children, ages six and nine, went missing and were presumed drowned.

On Sunday, state police said searchers had recovered the body of a child but did not provide any other information.

State Park Police Maj. David Page told the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle that recovery efforts were continuing.
