There's a new rumor circulating online that you have to fill out the Census in order to get a stimulus check from the government. This is not the case.
The false posts have been popping up on Facebook and Twitter.
Last week the federal government said it was considering sending money to Americans in order to buffer the economic impact from the coronavirus. Even if the measure passes federal law prohibits the government from using Census information to mail the stimulus checks.
