President Donald Trump's trade war with China could make our fireworks more expensive. Experts say a proposed 25% tariff on imported fireworks could be devastating to the industry and others.
They say the United States imports 90% of at-home fireworks and more than 75% of professional fireworks from China. The costs tied to tariffs would end up being passed on to the consumer and thousands of small towns that put on shows.
"We're really worried about the 16,000 independence day holiday shows that are put on in this country by small townships and municipalities that are already cash strapped," said Julie Heckman of the American Pyrotechnics Association. "They're struggling to have the money to fund their 4th of July show. Another 25% would be crippling."
Non-profits who sell fireworks to raise money could also take a hit. Experts worry fireworks will be more expensive for new year's shows and for the next Fourth of July
