Citizen hit, dragged by car while attempting to stop shoplifter at Lowes in Indiana

BEECH GROVE, Ind. -- A citizen was seriously injured while trying to help detain a shoplifting suspect at Lowes on Tuesday and police are still searching for the suspect. 

Beech Grove, Indiana Police responded to the Lowes around 10:30 a.m. for a report of a man who was shoplifting a power tool. 

Surveillance video below shows the suspect picking up the power tool. 

Police say a citizen saw the man being chased on foot by another citizen in the parking lot and decided to help. When the suspect got into a vehicle, that citizen tried to grab him and was dragged, clinging to the vehicle. 

As the suspect fled the parking lot, he ran into another vehicle and knocked the citizen off. The citizen sustained broken ribs and large scrapes to his torso from the incident. 

Surveillance video below shows the vehicle fleeing the parking lot.

Police are looking for a white male with dark hair, possibly pulled back into a ponytail. He was driving a silver or white 4-door vehicle similar to a Pontiac Grand Am or Grand Prix.
