A veteran of the US Navy was told by his condominium association in Connecticut that flying the US Navy flag is not allowed, WFSB-TV reported. 

Joe Allen served the Navy from 1965 to 71, during the Vietnam War. Allen, who suffers from PTSD, has lived at the development in Laurels Condominiums in Enfield with his wife since 2003, but only started flying the Navy flag since last year. 

The flag has a special meaning for Allen. 

“It’s comforting to me to be able to come up in the morning, see my flag, besides the American flag, but this is where I served, I served in the Navy,” Allen told WFSB. 

And then recently, he was told he would be fined $25 a day for flying the Navy flag. 

“Just all of a sudden, they do a walk around and they decided to say you can’t put your Navy flag up anymore,” he told WFSB. “They took the happiness out of living here.”

WFSB reported that the condo's handbook on rules and regulations says the American flag, a decorative, holiday or seasonal flag is acceptable.

Premiere Property Management and the president of the condo association both gave no comment to WFSB.
