Don Larsen, the only pitcher to throw a perfect game in the World Series, has died on Wednesday at the age of 90, the New York Daily News reported.

The New York Daily News reported that Larsen died in hospice care in Hayden, Idaho, of esophageal cancer.

While Larsen was never an MLB All-Star, he had arguably the single best pitching performance in World Series history. Larsen tossed the only perfect game in World Series play in Game 5 of the 1956 series against Brooklyn. Larsen's performance led to a World Series MVP award, and helped the Yankees win that year's title.

Larsen was a journeyman in baseball playing for eight different MLB clubs. He compiled an 81-91 record over 17 seasons. Larsen won two World Series titles as a member of the Yankees.
