False alarm forces evacuation of Dallas airport

Posted

DALLAS (AP) — Authorities say fire alarms twice sounded at one of Dallas' main airports, forcing an evacuation and disrupting travel plans as many flights were rescheduled.

Officials say the alarms at Dallas Love Field have not been working properly and a false alarm occurred about 9 a.m. Saturday. Hundreds of people were asked to evacuate as a precautionary measure when another false alarm sounded about a half-hour later.

The Transportation Security Administration reopened its checkpoints later in the morning.

Southwest Airlines, the main carrier serving Love Field, issued a statement saying, "We appreciate passenger patience as we work through the event."

Arrivals and departures for Southwest and other carriers were delayed in some cases by an hour.

Love Field is in Dallas while Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is northwest of the city.
