Hurricane Irma impacts NFL, major college football schedule

Hurricane Irma impacts NFL, major college football schedule
Posted

With Hurricane Irma expected to make landfall this weekend in South Florida, a number of NFL and major college football games are being postponed or canceled due to the storm.

Already, four Top 25 college football games and an NFL game has been axed due to Irma.

NFL:

Tampa at Miami - Postponed to Nov. 19

Both teams had a bye week on Nov. 19, but that now means that the teams will have to play 16 straight weeks without a break.

College Football:

Louisiana Monroe at No. 10 Florida State - Canceled

No. 16 Miami at Arkansas State - Canceled

UCONN at No. 21 South Florida - Likely canceled

Although both teams are in the American Athletic Conference, it is unlikely the game will be made up, officials from the AAC said.

Northern Colorado at No. 22 Florida - Canceled

MLB:

The Miami Marlins are currently in Atlanta for a four-game series, which got underway Thursday night. Although Atlanta could potentially be impacted by Irma well after landfall, the teams should be able to get in the series without any problem.

With a number of evacuees leaving Florida for Georgia, the Braves are offering free admission to Florida residents to games this weekend.

Miami is not slated to return home until Sept. 15.

The Tampa Bay Rays are in Boston for a three-game series against the Red Sox. MLB is discussing moving the Rays' slated home series next week against the Yankees to a neutral site.
