A long-awaited plan is now in the works to address the high number of veteran suicides in the United States.
It will be a two-year effort with initiatives like firearm safety, wellness programs in the workplace, and new barriers near bridges and railroads.
President Donald Trump has signed off on $53 million for the efforts. Other veteran programs outside of the Department of Veteran Affairs will also be eligible for the money.
The first of the efforts will start in a few weeks with a public messaging campaign to raise awareness about suicides during the pandemic.
