Magnitude 7.5 earthquake hits east of Kuril Islands

KURIL ISLANDS, RUSSIA — A 7.5 magnitude earthquake shook the ground Tuesday night, east of the Kuril Islands.

According to the U.S. geological survey, the earthquake occurred Tuesday at 6:49 p.m.

The quake occurred at a depth of 35 miles below the earth's surface.
