Man misses flight, wants TSA to pay for it

Posted

A Minneapolis man is suing the Transportation Security Administration for $506.85 because long lines through an airport screening caused him to miss his flight to Los Angeles, the Star Tribune reports.

The lawsuit was originally filed in local court last week, but was transferred to federal court, the paper reported.

The man, Hooman Nikizad, said his 90-minute wait to pass through airport security caused him to miss his flight. The suit is to cover a replacement ticket, added ground transportation and a $75 court fee.

"I had to buy a ticket with another airline to be able to make my destination and meet my obligations," Nikizad said in his claim, according to the Star Tribune, which noted the TSA had limited staff on duty at the time and "only one body scanner for the regular security line [in operation]."

TSA has come under fire in recent months as lines have surged at the nation's largest airports. TSA administrators have said that it is spending an additional $22 million to hire screeners.
