An employee at a Brenham, Texas McDonald’s is out of a job after the employee refused to serve an off-duty police officer and his family, KHOU-TV reported.

According to KHOU-TV, the employee’s son was in custody and facing charges when the off-duty officer was turned away.

According to Brenham Police Chief Craig Goodman, Scott Munroe — the owner of the Brenham McDonald’s — was disheartened to hear about the incident.

“My family was very upset,” Munroe said. “It's sad that people act this way towards police or other people.”

Goodman said that Munroe and his staff were eager to resolve the issue.

“The Brenham McDonald’s has been a staple in this community and have been longtime supporters of the Brenham Police Department, as well as all of the other first responders,” Goodman said.

“We know this was an isolated incident that involved a single employee who is not fond of law enforcement,” Goodman added. “It is my hopes and prayers that this employee and anyone else who has a negative view of law enforcement address the real and/or perceived problems through positive communication with us.”

Brenham is located 200 miles south of Dallas. Dallas was the site where five police officers were shot to death by a sniper earlier this month.
