Study: MLB needs more minorities, women

Posted

An annual report examining diversity in Major League Baseball says teams could do a better job hiring minority candidates for managing and GM posts or women for VP and other administrative positions.

The study is being released Wednesday. It is overseen by Richard Lapchick of The Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport at the University of Central Florida.

This season, there are three MLB managers and four general managers who are minorities.

Lapchick says in a telephone interview that baseball "needs to re-emphasize the importance of having a diverse" group of people running the sport.

Lapchick says "In terms of opportunities for women, there's a lot left to be desired."
