SILVERTON, Ohio -- One man is dead after a woman struck him as he was crossing an intersection in his motorized wheelchair.

Robert D. Tirey, 44, of Cincinnati, was operating the wheelchair in a marked crosswalk around 9:35 p.m. Thursday when police say Jasmain L. Grier, 26, of Cincinnati, failed to yield and struck Tirey on the right side with her 2004 Kia Spectra.

Tirey was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Grier was not injured in the crash. It is unknown whether she was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. Alcohol is believed to have contributed to the auto crash. Speed and drugs of abuse are not believed to have contributed to the auto crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Traffic Safety Unit.
