Janet Reno, the first female attorney general for the United States, was also the first woman to serve as state attorney in Miami, Florida.

Reno died Monday, Nov. 7, 2016 at age 78 after living with Parkinson's Disease. She served as attorney general under the President Bill Clinton administration from 1993-2001.
