HALTON, Canada – A Canadian teenager is being praised for her honesty and integrity after turning over a large sum of money she found on the ground over the weekend.
Halton Regional police say the 17-year-old girl was walking in Milton, a town near Toronto, when she noticed a package on the ground.
Upon inspection, police say the teen discovered the package contained several bank deposit envelopes with thousands of dollars in cash inside.
“It was apparent that the deposit envelopes were from a local business,” wrote police in a press release on Sunday.
The girl promptly brought the cash to the police department, where officers were able to get in contact with the business and the money was returned.
Police say the deposit envelopes had been inadvertently dropped by an employee.
“It is acts of honestly and civic duty like this that replenishes faith in the good-hearted nature of the majority of youth in our community,” wrote police. “Halton Regional Police acknowledges this young woman and commends her for her honesty and integrity.”
