Principal's comments on dress code angers parents

Posted

As school begins in South Carolina, one principal is facing backlash from parents after comments she made involving the school's dress code.

Stratford High School Principal Heather Taylor told 10th-grade students that "unless you're a size 0 or 2," you'll look fat wearing leggings as pants.

According to WCBD, parents have been reaching out to Taylor after the comments were recorded and sent to the station.

“I’m not a size zero and I kind of felt targeted because of my size,” Allison Veazey, a Sophomore at Stratford High, told WCBD.

In response to Taylor's comments, dozens of people wrote to school district's Facebook page. Among the comments, some are calling for Taylor to be fired.

"Apparently this is a school where the principal feels it is acceptable behavior to body shame and berate female students. There is no place for this in education, and she needs to be fired," Meg Lewis wrote.

According to WCBD, Taylor was encouraging public comments about the issue.
