Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-California) has been elected House minority leader by Republican members of the House of Representatives, NBC and others report.
McCarthy, considered by many to be the favorite in the elections edged out challenger Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio).
McCarthy currently serves as House majority leader.
