Salad product sold at Publix locations recalled

Posted

The grocery chain Publix is recalling its Wheatberry Salad product due to sunflower kernels used in the salad that may contain Listeria monocytogenes, according to an FDA statement Friday.

The salad was available for purchase at all Publix locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. The FDA said that consumption of products containing Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infection in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. The FDA also advises that Listeria could cause less severe symptoms for healthy individuals, such as diarrhea, discomfort and fever.

“While the product is no longer available on store shelves, we have issued a voluntary recall because of our commitment to food safety and to advise our customers who may still have this product at home,” said Maria Brous, Publix media and community relations director.

Those who have purchased the salad may return the product to Publix for a full refund.
