Social media posts may affect drag race sentence

Posted
MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) — A suburban New York teenager who participated in a 2014 drag race that killed five other teens may have hurt his chances for leniency with a series of insensitive social media posts including one that disparaged police.

Cory Gloe is scheduled to be sentenced Friday.

Prosecutors have asked a judge to consider the posts in determining whether to stick to an agreement to sentence the 19-year-old Farmingdale man to six months behind bars.

Gloe pleaded guilty in March to a 17-count indictment that included five manslaughter charges in exchange for a six-month sentence.

That same day, he allegedly posted messages including, "I'll be in and out faster than you can spin a doubt."

Gloe also got re-arrested on a weapons charge, which was later dropped.

Gloe's attorney declined to comment.
