Bakersfield, CA. - The National Parks Service is saluting our nation's veterans and gold start families with free access to these public landmarks.

The Department of Interior says that starting today, entrance fees for national parks will be permanently waived for veterans and gold star families, which are military families who've lost a loved one in service.

The department has already waived fees for active duty service members.
