Trump: Potential government shutdown has 'nothing to do with' Harvey recovery efforts

During a press conference on Monday, President Trump pledged 100 percent support to the people of Texas who were affected by Hurricane Harvey said that he doesn't think a potential government shutdown would hamper recovery efforts in Texas.

"I think it has nothing to do with it," Trump said when asked about the impact a shutdown would have on the recovery efforts.

President Trump also told one reporter from Texas that "you're going to get your funding" when asked about recovery efforts

In the past, President Trump has threatened to not sign a spending bill and shut down the government if Congress' next version of the spending bill does not include funding for a border wall with Mexico.

"I hope (a shutdown) is not necessary, but we'll see," he said. "You need the wall for the drugs. The drugs are a tremendous problem."

President Trump also answered questions about his pardoning of Sheriff Joe Arpaio, saying that Arpaio had done a "great job" as the Maricopa County sheriff and that he though the sheriff had been treated "very unfairly."

"Sheriff Joe Is a patriot, Sheriff Joe loves our country and Sheriff Joe protected our borders, and I stand by my pardon," he said.

Trump's comments came during a joint press conference with Finnish president Sauli Niinistö.

More on this as it develops.
