Trump requests top security clearances for his kids

President-elect Donald Trump has asked the White House to explore the possibility of giving his oldest children top security clearances, CBS News reports.

Trump has made the request despite the fact that nepotism rules prevent them from being hired to work in the White House. However, his kids do not need to be government officials to receive top security clearances.

For Trump’s request to be granted, it would technically require Ivanka, Eric and Donald Jr. to be designated as national security advisers.

CBS News reports that his children would need to fill out the security questionnaire (SF-86) and go through the requisite background checks.

“Eligibility will be granted only where facts and circumstances indicate access to classified information is clearly consistent with the national security interests of the United States. Access to classified information will be terminated when an individual no longer has need for access,” the State Department website explains.

The three, as well as son-in-law Jared Kushner, were named to the president-elect’s transition team late last week.
