U.S. Air Force says jet has crashed into North Sea

LONDON (AP) -- The United States Air Force has confirmed that a jet training in the United Kingdom has crashed into the North Sea.

The Air Force saying an F-15C Eagle crashed at about 1:40 a.m. Pacific Time in the North Sea. The jet was part of the 48th Fighter Wing out of Royal Air Force Lakenheath in the United Kingdom.

The Air Force saying at the time of the crash, the plane was on a "routine training mission with one pilot on board."

The status of the pilot is not known. It's not known what caused the crash.

U.K. Search and Rescue have been dispatched to help in search efforts.
