There are 30 balloons in this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, which is in its 90th year.

When the parade originated in 1924, it was themed around Christmas. It became a Thanksgiving parade in 1927, and that's also when the giant balloons debuted, replacing live zoo animals.
