VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A dozen people were killed Friday in Virginia Beach, Virginia, when a longtime city employee opened fire in a municipal building. This is what we know about them.
Laquita Brown
Brown was a right-of-way agent for the city for four-and-a-half years.
Tara Gallagher
Gallagher was an engineer for the city for six years.
Mary Louise Gayle
Gayle worked as a right-of-way agent for the city for 24 years.

Herbert "Bert" Snelling
Snelling was a contractor in Virginia Beach. He was trying to fill a permit when the shooting happened, city officials say.
Four others in the shooting were hospitalized, police said. They had surgery Friday night. Three are in critical condition, while one is in fair condition, hospital officials said.
The gunman was identified as 40-year-old DeWayne Craddock, an engineer with the city's public utilities department "for approximately 15 years," according to police. They say his motive is unknown at this time.
Craddock was a current employee. Police say he fired through all three floors of the building. A .45-caliber pistol, a suppressor and several empty, higher-capacity magazines were found near the gunman, according to police.
