An Iowa woman who gave birth on a toilet is facing charges after police say she tried to flush the baby down the toilet, Des Moines-based WHOtv.com reported. 

Ashley Hautzenrader, 22, delivered the baby at a University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics bathroom, according to WHOtv.com. 

A police report states Hautzenrader of Davenport, Iowa entered a bathroom and delivered a baby in the toilet. The woman thought the baby was dead because it was not crying, according to the report which stated Hautzenrader said she did not know she was pregnant before entering the bathroom. 

She later placed the baby in a pillow case and put the baby in the trash can, according to police. The baby was found alive by hospital employees, according to the report.
