Oakland television crew robbed of $60,000 camera

Posted
OAKLAND, Calif.-- Police say a crew working for an Oakland city television station was robbed at gunpoint for a video camera worth an estimated $60,000.

It's the latest of at least a dozen robberies of television news crews and still photographers that has plagued the San Francisco Bay Area since 2012.

The Oakland Tribune reports Saturday the robbery occurred Thursday as two KTOP-TV employees were wrapping up a shoot on the fringes of the city's Ghost Town neighborhood.

Police say the suspect armed with a handgun took the video camera and rode away on a bicycle. He has not been arrested.

Several camera crews from major Bay Area television stations and photographers from two newspapers have been robbed of their pricey gear.

At least three robberies and two burglaries have been reported this year.
