LOS ANGELES — Authorities in southern California say a man was fatally struck by a Metro bus in East Los Angeles over the weekend before the vehicle continued on its route.
The Los Angeles Times reported that California Highway Patrol officers responded to a report Sunday around 12:40 a.m. of a man lying in the street near City Terrace Drive.
The coroner’s office identified the man as 26-year-old Peter Smith Padilla of Pomona. Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies stopped the bus in South El Monte and determined it had been involved in the accident.
Investigators later concluded the man was hit by the bus’ rear tire and the driver did not notice.
