The California Police Chiefs Association is holding a press conference on Friday in Sacramento to discuss officer suicide.

With September being suicide awareness month, CPCS is launching an initiative to bring officer suicide out of the shadows. A 2018 nationwide study found more law enforcement officers died by suicide than in the line of duty. The association has formed a Human Behind the Badge Workgroup made up of experienced practitioners, subject matter experts, and agency representatives.

This group will host a series of meetings to develop a strategy to improve officer wellness and resiliency.
