California Senate approves extension of eviction relief bill

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The California State Assembly passed a bill to extend an eviction moratorium put in place in March by Governor Newsom, keeping residents from losing their homes.

The current eviction ban was set to expire tomorrow, however the assembly voted 56 to 8 in a bipartisan vote, thus passing the bill and sending it to Newsom's desk for a signature.

Tenants aren't immediately required to pay the rent they missed between March and August, but their landlords can sue them to recover the money starting in March of next year.

Governor Newsom is expected to sign the bill into law before the midnight deadline.
