The recent mass shootings over the weekend are certain to take center stage in political forums and reignite the debate over gun control. Lawmakers around the country and here in California are reacted to the shootings.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy posted on Twitter, writing "No one in this country should fear going shopping or going out on a Saturday night. These monsters acted out of pure hate — we must not allow this evil to ever happen again. All Americans lift up the families who are mourning, & we thank the first responders who acted so quickly."

Governor Gavin Newsom also took to Twitter: "We cannot allow those who refuse to act on gun safety laws represent this country. We cannot allow those who fan the flames of hatred or sit silently by represent this county. We’re past the tipping point. This is a crisis. Our leaders must address it as such—or leave office."
