Eastbound 101 Freeway shut down in Encino after 1 killed in officer-involved crash

ENCINO, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- One person was killed in a car crash involving a California Highway Patrol officer, which shut down all lanes of the eastbound 101 Freeway in Encino early Monday morning, authorities said.

The crash occurred near Balboa Boulevard at about 3:40 a.m.

Details regarding how many vehicles were involved in the crash and what led to it were not immediately known.

The identity of the person who died has not been released.

CHP said all lanes were expected to be shut down until 11 a.m. Traffic was being diverted off at White Oak Avenue in the meantime.

AIR7 HD showed a major traffic backup that stretched several miles.
