Fresno Sheriff's Dept. identifies body of Firebaugh boy shot and killed

BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. — The Fresno County Sheriff's Department has identified the body of a Fresno boy who was shot and killed on Sunday, February 3 as Ivan Gomez of Firebaugh.

FCSO deputies were dispatched to a home near Fairfax Avenue for a report of an accidental shooting. Deputies arrived and found 12-year-old boy, Gomez, who was later pronounced dead, according to a press release.

The Sheriff's Department said that detectives learned that both the 12-year-old victim and another 13-year-old boy had access to a handgun. The investigation is ongoing and detectives are still working to find out how the kids were able to access the gun and gained access to the guns and what led to the death of Gomez.
