TURLOCK, Calif. — Police in the Central Valley have seized thousands of marijuana plants inside a building co-owned by a former congressman.

According to the Modesto Bee, five people were arrested and guns, 4,000 marijuana plants, and other drugs were seized after Turlock police raided an industrial building Wednesday.

Former United States Representative Jeff Denham belongs to the corporation that owns the building. Denham's attorney, Michael Warda, says the owners were planning to sell the building to a company that applied for a city permit to grow marijuana.

The deal was contingent on permit approval, but it is now terminated. The Republican representative spent eight years in the state senate.
