KERN COUNTY, Calif. (KERO) — On Monday, the Electoral College officially elected Joe Biden for president. Kern County Democratic leaders respond:

"Today, the Electoral College, in accordance with the Constitution, elected Joe Biden President of the United States. This result reaffirmed the will of the people, who legally elected Joe Biden with more votes than any other President in the history of our great nation. Republican leader Kevin McCarthy now has the responsibility to uphold American democracy and accept the results of this election in order to unite the country and preserve the integrity of our election system. As a united nation, we must now focus on the real issues effecting the American people. We can see light at the end of this darkness, but the battle against COVID is not over. It is imperative that we come together to pass a bipartisan COVID relief package, that offers real economic relief to the millions of struggling families and small businesses and ensures that everyone has the opportunity to receive the COVID vaccination as soon as possible."
