Officials with the Los Padres National Forest announced that recreational shooting will be prohibited in all areas within the forest until December of this year.

The Los Padres Forest is a national forest located in the southern and central parts of California and includes lands within San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura and Kern counties.

According to forest officials, this will provide for public safety during increasingly dangerous fire conditions.
U.S. Forest Service says that despite the early rainfall and live fuel moisture levels across the lands the forest did not significantly recover and are currently hovering just above the 60-percent critical threshold.

Anyone in violation can receive a fine up to $10,000 or six months in prison or in some cases both.
